Led by faculty in partnership with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), the Faculty Learning Community (FLC) brings together a group of faculty who meet regularly to engage in an active, collaborative exploration of a shared pedagogical or curricular topic. The overall goal is to strengthen DKU’s culture of reflective and research-informed teaching, where faculty explore ways to foster significant student learning (Fink, 2003), engage with relevant pedagogical literature, and apply evidence-based practices to their courses.

FLC 2025-26 Theme: Assessment in the Age of GenAI

As GenAI continues to transform the higher education landscape, the effective measurement of student success is more critical — and complex — than ever.

This initiative is aligned with the DKU’s commitment to foster innovation in teaching and learning. It is supported by the Dean for Academic Strategy and Learning Innovation whose responsibilities include designing and implementing systems to assess and support high-quality and innovative teaching and curricular design, as well as fostering research and practical experimentation on AI in education and best practices in teaching and learning.

Over a year, this cohort of FLC members

  1. Collaborated with and learned from colleagues who were also designing and implementing novel evaluation methods that went beyond traditional homework and tests to measure students’ knowledge, skills, understanding, and abilities.

  2. Shared their knowledge with the wider DKU community and became champions for assessments designed to be more engaging, interactive, and reflective of real-world scenarios at DKU.
